The goal of South Dakota IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (SD INBRE) is to maintain and grow the biomedical research infrastructure within the state of South Dakota. We will accomplish this goal by expanding research capacity in SD in the area of cell biology and the control of cell and microbial growth, aligning core resources with SD INBRE investigators, and enhancing SD INBRE faculty development in scholarship, grantsmanship, and mentorship. SD INBRE will provide research opportunities for undergraduate students at partner institutions, use outreach programs to engage students in research opportunities, and encourage the unique perspectives of members across career stages by providing innovative collaborations and learning environments. Projects that advance the goals of SD INBRE include those that utilize core resources, enhance faculty development, provide training resources for students, and approach scientific problems in innovative ways. This RFA is for researchers that plan to serve as DRPP fellows in SD INBRE during the 2027-28 grant year (September 1, 2027-August 31, 2028). Specifically, this solicitation is for submission of Specific Aims pages that will be selected for full proposal submission. A separate RFA will open for full proposals, and only those that have been selected to submit a full proposal will be eligible to apply. Applicants selected to submit a full proposal will work with an external mentor during the 2026-27 grant year as they prepare for full proposal submission. The DRPP funding opportunity for SD INBRE supports faculty research projects as detailed in the RFA (https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PAR-23-100.html).
